Place in a vase as quickly as possible
Bouquets are carefully packaged for good reason. This prevents the flowers from being damaged during transport and protects the bouquet against cold or heat. Always put the bouquet in water as quickly as possible.
Cut at an angle and do not let the leaves come into the water
To remove bacteria, among other things, it is important to cut flower stems at an angle before placing them in the vase. Use sharp tools, preferably a knife and, if necessary, good pruning shears. If the material is not sharp, you will clamp the capillaries and the flower will not be able to absorb the water properly.
Make sure that no leaves get into the water, because they will rot. Flowers cannot tolerate polluted water. It is not necessary to remove thorns from roses. This even creates 'wounds' in which bacteria can settle.
Have any flowers faded? Remove these and you will enjoy the beautiful flowers for longer.
Use a clean, suitable vase
Use a vase in which the flower stems have space and make sure the vase is clean. Glass vases are generally easy to clean (dishwasher or dishwashing with detergent). You can also see whether the bouquet still has enough water. It is better not to use a crystal or metal vase, because the water becomes contaminated (more quickly). Tip: place vases upside down in the cupboard to keep them clean.
In our webshop you will find a unique range of vases in different sizes. It is also possible to order a standard glass vase with each bouquet.

Cut flower food helps the flowers develop beautifully and last longer. It is therefore important that you add the added nutrition to the water in the ratio as indicated. Make sure you add enough water; too much nutrition in too little water can cause leaf burn and stem discoloration. However, underdosing is much more common and causes stem discoloration, stunted flower development, limp petals, leaf discoloration and limp leaves. Special nutrients are available for some types of flour. Feel free to ask us about this.
Tap water in the vase
Flowers don't need spring water; tap water is fine. The ideal temperature varies per flower type. That is why lukewarm/lukewarm water is generally recommended. Do you have a bouquet of a specific flower type and do you want to know the ideal water temperature? Ask us!
If you add cut flower food, changing the vase water between times is usually not necessary. However, some flower species pollute the water very badly. It is then advisable to change the water after a few days. Don't forget to add new cut flower food.
Do not place flowers in a draught, in the heat or near fruit
Drafts, heat and fruit cause flowers to age faster and/or droop. So do not place the bouquet in full sun, near a heater or fireplace or in a drafty place.
