The bouquets in our extra sustainable collection are made up of flowers that are grown in a demonstrably sustainable way. All the flowers come from companies that are certified as MPS-A+ or MPS-A. These certificates recognise growers who excel in sustainability and can demonstrate this with data. Therefore, by choosing an extra sustainable bouquet, you are choosing the most sustainable flowers currently available.
The Environmental Programme for Floriculture (MPS) is a certification scheme developed independently by the floriculture industry and recognised globally. The programme aims to make floriculture more sustainable and future-proof worldwide. Growers participating in the programme are inspected quarterly to ensure they meet the required standards with regard to the use of fertilisers, pesticides, water and energy. Based on these inspections, growers receive a score from 0 to 110. There are four levels:
As the name suggests, Extra Sustainable Flowers are even more sustainable. At De Duinroos, we have achieved Gold certification under the Sustainable Florist Barometer, meaning that at least 50% of the flowers we purchase are sustainably certified. While this is much higher than average, it is not 100% — a figure that is only achieved with the bouquets in our extra sustainable collection. We also make significant efforts in other areas of sustainability, such as energy consumption, cleaning products and packaging. We must demonstrate this to maintain our certification.
A classic bouquet, it is made up of sustainable flowers. It owes its name to the symmetrical binding method, which gives the bouquet a semi-spherical appearance. Round bouquets create a neat and tidy look and are very popular as thank-you gifts, get-well gifts or anniversary presents.
A type of bouquet that has gained considerable popularity in recent years is the pick-a-pick bouquet, also known as a field bouquet. Unlike a round bouquet, this type of bouquet looks as if it were picked straight from the field. This is because the stems are all different lengths, giving the bouquet a playful appearance. Field bouquets and pick-a-pick bouquets are a great way to cheer someone up, for example for a birthday or graduation.
